You guys know damn well you sit there on your computers or at home/wherever and think of an amazing idea . What stops you, if anything from pursuing and building on the idea, besides of course capital investment and or lack of knowledge? Are there any other factors that affect you?

Also, would you hire a whole team to develop a website and code everything for you and be left to their mercy in terms of you not knowing 100% of the programming and what what does?

Hire coders :noes: or partner up with someone that knows coding. You provide one aspect of the company/business idea and they provide the coding. Just make sure they don't screw you by stealing your idea

Also I noticed you are using VB for your forum, any comments on using a downloaded version and not licensed?

    Couple things, I think.

They all kind of tie into one thing though. If a project I launch on my own becomes big by some act of God, I will be compelled to maintain it. I'm really protective over the shit I write, and I definitely wouldn't want others to get in on it, so getting other people to help is basically out of the question.

I guess I don't want the responsibility of a good website :dunno: I'm currently about as close as I've ever been to putting up a site, but since it would be a utility for a game, and gamers are fucking rabid when it comes to shit they like, I don't know if I could, or would want to, keep up.

    Hadn't really thought about that...

I suppose there is little more tantalizing to most community members than being able to flex a little muscle, I probably wouldn't even have to pay in the monetary sense.

I built one website that does about ~6k per year pure revenue.

If I built 10 of those, It'd be a nice addition to my salary, alas I'm too lazy and dont really have the will to work on SEO and other crap anymore.

Hell I was offered a SEO consulting job for 60k per year recently..

I dont like spending alot of time on my projects, I do them quick and have quick profit return even if its not that big, over time it adds up.

    Yep.

I had plans to add the shop to my website and offer my local services, which would probably increase my income 10x but I dont have time currently to do either, since Im busy with my two other jobs :hs:

:eek3: my site will be related to a band and info about them. printing up cards and leaving around at their concerts would be FTW... hopefully unless that somehow breaks a law somewhere.

I'd strongly suggest using some ALT tags in your image based website, if I disable images it's an actual blank page. This won't be very search friendly, just a helpful bit of advice. Your design is excellent though, very impressive and original. :)

As far as the original topic, I have countless ideas and the skills to create them (and/or consult others to help), but I have to tread carefully as I don't want to jeopardize my day job... a project manager on an interactive team.

Basically I just consult for others at the moment, if I see something that really sparks me I try to get in on it for a piece of the pie.

werd, I have a couple good domains that I want to develop, but don't have anyone that will code it for cheap, except one of my friends and he's always busy...

What holds me back from doing a project?

Nothing. Just don't spread yourself too thin. 20 projects @ 5% of your attention will not convert anywhere near 1-2 projects at your full attention.

I use overnightprints.com for double sided color cards for advertising.. they're like $60 shipped for 1000 glossy.

I ask myself if it's worth my time. I have a couple ongoing projects in the works, only one currently bringing in adsense money, covering the hosting costs. I just need to figure out how to make the others explode without having to advertise much.
