I usually keep mine around 160 bpm, but i'm thinking about lowering it to around 120 or 130 but go for a longer time.

Just 20 min. I could get it up way more but i want to keep it low to burn fat rather than muscle glucose (if that is true).

Well..it works like this. While percentage-wise you may burn more fat at lower intensities, you burn more TOTAL calories at higher intensities and therefore more fat.

    Before I was doing HIIT:

    1) Warm up for 1 minute
    2) Jog at 4.5mph to get heart rate up to 140bpm
    3) Speed up to 6.5mph to get heart rate up to 160bpm
    4) Repeat steps 2 & 3 for 40-60 minutes

When I do HIIT on the eliptical, I do 1 minute extremely fast and then 30 seconds slow, repeat as many times within 25 minutes as possible. My heart rate gets up to 185+.

:ugh: @ the guy who thinks he's doing HIIT by jogging at 6.5mph.

When I do HIIT outdoors, i'm running at a 6:00 mile pace for 1 minute and then I jog for 1 minute at a 10:00 mile pace... I don't know what that translates into in actual MPH speed because I do it outdoors, but it kicks my ass.
