So I've broken down and decided to work on the grip. My question is what gripper I should start out with, the only real benchmark I have to go by is my DL, I can 5 reps @ 300, but at 310 my grip keeps failing. Should I start w/ the trainer or would I be okay to go for the #1?

The grippers should be secondary. The two main exercises that you need to do are the farmer's walk and the static hold.

It'll give me something to do when I have to sit here listening to you guys debate about what flavor of protein is the best.

That's not how you're supposed to use the grippers. They're not a toy that you play with whenever you feel like it. You need to treat them like you would a barbell or dumbbell; use them sparingly (no more than once per day, twice per week) and not casually. You can get away with doing that with cheap grippers bought at a sporting goods store, but not the CoC grippers.
