so one of my gis is starting to break down, and tear everywhere. I am strongly considering getting a new gi, I would like one that has thick lapels and will hold up for 4 to 5 years (and is high quality). The price range... generally under 200 dollars but feel free to suggest anything.

I've had a generic judo gi, a koral classic gi, and a howard competition bjj gi.

I have a koral classic, a koral MKM, and a bunch of budo gis I use for BJJ.

I've got a bunch hanging around that I used to use for Karate as well.

    I love my MKM.

whats the difference between koral MKM and classic? I heard from some people that it was just the patches... but the price difference says otherwise. Got any insight into this?

I like the way the MKM fits better. It's also easier for me to move in it. It doesn't seem as stiff as the classic. When I pull the MKM out of the dryer it move easily...the classic requires that I manipulate it to move.

I've had a couple kikskins that lasted about 2 years a peiece, and now I've got a couple Worldorfs. I'm not nearly as happy with these, but they were cheap.

Torah, 2 Korals, Atama, HCK, Ground Control, 2 WARs, Sirius, and another I can't think of.

I love my Korals. They rule.

My next one though, given a choice based on borrowed gis, would be a keiko or a shoyaroll.

Hillary, can you tell a difference between the MKM and classic? Also, hows the quality on the war gis? they are only from brazil right?

And bit, which koral do you have, and why do you hate it?

From asking other people... ive heard that if I were to just buy one gi now it should be (another) koral.

I have a blue HSU that I've never worn (I just like the white better) and a white ProMark, which is what I train in. Keep in mind I've only been training for about 6 months, about 8 hours per week, but aside from some discoloration, it's in perfect condition. Not even a loose thread anywhere.

    Paid $60 for it.

I don't know about you, but I prefer thinner during the cold months. It does get cold in Chicago, but everyone sweating in one room kinda counters that.

I can, actually. MKMs let me move a lot better. I don't like the HUGE patch on the new MKMs though, I'm gonna rip it off.

WAR gis are the most heavy duty things ever. I have had my pink one for 3 years, using it 3-4 times a week at the minimum and washing it. No rips still. Stiff collar, but on the thick/heavy side so if you're thinking IBJJF tournaments I wouldn't recommend it unless your weight is good.

    Fuck spending $200 on one.

Buy a Fuji, an HCK, a Vulkan and a Shoroyoll. Then you have 4-5 gi's you can rotate, they won't stink and since they will only get used once a week each, they will last forever.

One gi sucks. Wash it 4 times a week? Next.

I've got a Gameness, a Kikskin, and a Century Judo gi that I rotate through. The Kikskin is by far the most comfortable of the 3 and the one that sees the most use.

Fuji is super cheap, keep in mind these are more judo gi's it is my first one so far but definitely a good starter guy, why?

Pros - Pants are very comfortable, jacket is extremely durable and thick. Not to mention they are pretty damn cheap.

Cons - Initially jacket was pretty big and still is a little after washing. Also because its thick its heavy and a little stiff.

Overall great starter or budget Gi. You can wash and dry this gi and not really have to worry about shrinkage because its already a bit bigger than usual.
