I am not entirely new to the world of body mods (got tattoos, some ear piercings). I recently got the "itch" to do more. I've gone around the city talking to piercers about two types of piercings - tongue & frenum.

I asked pierced A what gauge he uses for the tongue - he said 19 im like WTF? 19?? Piercer b said 16? WTF? I thought that tongue piercings started off with either 14 or 12 gauge?

What would be the drawbacks to piercing my tongue at 19 or 16?

well they dont make tongue jewelry at 19g so thats outta the question. as for doing at 16g it'd take a bit longer to heal and it is more prone to tearing/ripping

id find a new place to go

    :agree:

No doubt, why dont you see if you can find a piercer in your area that is APP certified. Those places you went to sound extremely incompetent.

    APP's Website:

They are probably talking length of the bar and in millimeters. 16mm = 5/8 inch, 19mm = 3/4 inch.
