I want to get a 1911 as my next gun. I have researched them a little plan to mainly use it for plinking @ the range. I've read the Springfield GI is a good performer. What do you guys think? What prices can you find these guys for locally? I really like the stainless version. I currently have a G19 that I've had for a year and I really like it. I have shot .40 caliber handguns, but never a .45. Is there alot more recoil with the .45? I expect there to be more than my 9mm but, would the recoil of the .45 be too much to shoot 200 rounds at a time @ the range? Again, I just plan to use this at the range. Any other choices in that price range?

    Thanks

i actually prefer the recoil of the .45 over 9mm and .40

the .45 recoil is rather tame considering the size of the round, its like a solid thud more than a snappy kick... if that makes any sense?

i havent shot a lot of pistols, but i have shot about 150-200 rounds out of a Colt 1911 in one session and i didnt feel as if i over did it... sorry i cant comment on the particular pistol tho

So basically instead of the pistol snapping upward like the 9mm....the .45 sorta pushes back?

I have only heard good things about the Springfield G.I models. I would go for it, it seems they are pretty reasonable on price too.

Because they're goverment issue, and they suck. But swapping them out for Novak style sights isn't expensive. So it's not really an issue.

I love my 1911. I bought it for about $400 I think, several years ago. $250 in Wilson Combat internals, $100 in refinishing, and it's a fantastic weapon. I still want a better beavertail and an ambi saftey (I'm a lefty) and I should be good. I usually put 4-6 boxes through it at the range and my hands are never tired of it.

Contrast that with my Super Blackhawk .44 magnum; where I'm done after a box. Maybe two. Fun as hell to shoot that thing though. :hyper:

I also want to spend the $200 on a .22LR conversion kit for my 1911. It'd pay for itself after about 1500 rounds of .22LR. :hs:

Edit: my website is blocked by the smartfilter over here ( :greddy: ) but look in www.JaimeZX.com/OT I think there's a Coltnov2005.jpg or something like that in the directory somewhere. :big grin:

What? Hm. Maybe I removed it from that directory. Hold. I'll try and put it on upshizzle.

Edit: Sweet. Glad I brought my CDs with all my pictures. :coold:

Edit2: I don't like my stupid rubber grips. Open to suggestions for what else would look good. Hehe

I just got that. :o It's a "Dwyer Group-Gripper," supposed to help with lockup and keeping the bushing in place better. Although I can't say I've put enough rounds through the gun since I got it to see a huge difference. :hs:

Does make it kind of a PITA to disassemble. Also could make it difficult to rack the slide if I only had one hand available. What else do you have against it? (Very eloquent response, btw. :p )

We'll see. I'll mess with it a little more and try and determine just how effective it is. :hs:

My guess is that you will find zero difference. They are a fad thing like Ambi safties (unless you are a lefty)

I shoot lefty, but am right eye dominant :o I am going to attempt to switch to right.

Ambi safeties suck for us leftys. Eventually they will get loose in the middle joint. Nothing you can really do except squeeze it back together.
