I'm wanting a semi-auto shotgun for part time skeet/trap shooting, part time deer hunting. I know Stoeger is owned by Benelli, so I assume its good stuff, but a friend who has sold guns for years tells me they are crap. What is WMD's experience on this subject? I don't have the cash for a higher end gun, and couldn't very well justify it anyway since I'll only be using it a couple times a year.

my Dad has a Stoegar over/under and it is complete trash.

Randomly it will not fire the second barrel on the 20-gauge. Stoegar says there is nothing wrong with it.

i have no personal experience with stoeger but i have never heard anything good about em so i won't be buying 1

i don't like semi auto for skeet etc anyway, why not just go for a quality pump or look for a cheap double barell (skeet range i go to only alows 1 shell loaded at a time anyway)

pump rem 870 or moss 500 for under $300 and you're set for skeet, or hunting. often times you can find combo deals when you get get a barell for slugs and a 26 or 28" barell for your skeet or bird hunting etc for around $300 or a bit more

I've got a Stoeger 12 gauge side by side and I've only fired about 25 shells through it but it's been great so far.

wow I have heard nothing but great things about them. My brother has a stoeger pump, and a friend has a side by side coach gun and they both shoot great and have never had any problems with them. I've always looked at them as a cheaper benelli

    I have a p-350 and an uplander in 20ga.

The p-350 is a quality gun. The uplander is pretty cheap but does its job well. My only real complaint is that I shot a choke all to pieces in the uplander. I am 90% sure that is because I forgot to tighten it before I left.

I have had a m2000 for a few years now. It has cycled at least 1500-2000 shells without issue.

*but* my first time out with the gun I went out with some 1oz 7.5 which it had problems cycling. traded my buddy for a couple boxes of 1 1/8 8 and never looked back.

My Stoeger Cougar is pretty decent. Runs great, finish is a bit weak, but for the price it's a great gun.

I have a few friends with those, Stoeger Coach 12 ga side by sides. They've had great luck. I'm looking to get one and keep behind the bar in my house :)

All my experience with them causes me to think they are complete shit.

Its odd if they are owned by Benelli, because Benelli makes awesome shotgun.

For semi auto - I'd go with a Saiga 12.

    S12 or go home.

Doesn't look very promising. I think I'll start looking at Nova's.
