I've always toyed with the idea of getting something for the car, some sort of safe or other way to secure the gun, when I go somewhere that is a no carry zone. Since I am a student at the moment this happens on a near daily basis.

I'm not looking to spend a lot of money (poor student) and I'd prefer not to have to drill holes in the truck.

BTW if it matter I have an 03 Ram Quadcab

They make decent safes you can lock to your car. Not going to stop someone determined but I would imagine it would be safe from a typical smash and grab.

I use one of these. Collapses flat or folds up so it is really easy to stash in a door pocket, under the seat, or chuck in a suitcase for traveling.

At the last gun show I went to, they had these really cool safes meant for use like this. Was about the size of a shoe box, but it was hinged in such a way so that when you opened the top, the gun was on a cantilever that lifted it up, and out, presenting it for you to grab. Shut the top, and it lowers the gun back down into the box.
