I used to use Tag & Rename on windows

    What's good for OS X.

I'm on a mission to get every song/album tagged properly and also w/ artwork.

    Thanks!

For that stuff, iTunes should be perfect.

sorry, I made the post after waking up from a nap

I'm trying to get the files renamed to Track number - Track Title
I'd also like to batch change fields for an album, such as year, genre, etc

If automated like Tag & Rename, that would be awesome.

    itunes does batch tagging

select group of songs, right click, get info, edit, ?????? profit

also use itunes to keep your music folder organized so you dont have to. when you batch edit tags it will move the files to their correct place in real time without you ever having to manually do it.

i need to sit down and write an itunes edu for the general public

i dont think people realize itunes does everything

It doesn't do everything. Ever try to automatically get artwork for the Beatles or Radiohead or any other number of albums that Apple doesn't sell? And if it doesn't recognize an artist (say Jimmy Hendrix as opposed to The Jimmy Hendrix Experience) you're shit out of luck if you want iTunes to find the artwork for you. Other programs don't have these hiccups, they just give you a list of possible candidates if it's not obvious what album they're looking at.

Also, there are several programs, like Beatunes that help organize your music automatically (checking for spelling errors, differences in dates/album artists). You could do this in iTunes, but it would have to be manually.

the first problem can be solved if the music you download comes with the album art. you can just batch edit the tags and slap that cover in the little box and it will change it for the whole album. if your download doesnt come with the art, then it isnt my fault youre downloading bullshit rips.

the second part is just personal preference

itunes is arguably the most comprehensive music management software there is

plays, burns, rips, organizes, batch edits tags including artwork, EQ, visuals, 20+ different criteria for sorting/viewing, built in store, so on so forth....

    .

There really isn't anything better.. iTunes is pretty good, but all the things you can do with Media Rage will blow you away.

Typical Apple sackriding. "If Apple software doesn't do it, it's not worth doing."

Organize and tag with iTunes. Rename the files using Renamer4Mac. Works well for me. Quick and easy. Wasn't fun when I went to a standard naming conversion about 6-7 years ago and got to do it to over 200GB of music at the time.

The BEST program to use is MP3 Rage. It has lots of options. I use it to rename my files to track number - title.mp3. I use itunes to change the id3 tags since iTunes is pretty good at that.
