I have a sony htiab system setup in my living room right now and I want to upgrade. I already have all the speakers that I want. I have sony bookshelf speakers for the front and center speakers with the stock htiab rears and sub. I want to upgrade my reciever to a higher quality one with hdmi audio inputs and hdmi upconversion. I am going for a lower price model but I still want those features. I was looking at sony again because I like how they are controlled but then I saw the harmon Kardon and they really caught my eye.

What does ot think of the Harmon Kardon ARV-247? also what is a good inexpensive subwoofer to use? my sony system comes with an amp built into it for the sub but every other one requires a powered sub.

thanks for the info on a subwoofer that looks like a good deal so I might have to jump on it.

I don't like yahmaha. They just don't work the way I want them to. Also the less expensive models don't have the features that I want. you have to have the $500 yamaha to have hdmi audio support and the $800 onyko model to have hdmi audio.

    any other suggestions?

any other thoughts? I really am looking for something good here. I want to go mid grade and I don't want to get a shitty product. Like I said my speakers are small so I don't need 10000 watts of power I just need something with optical audio inputs and hdmi inputs(that use the hdmi for sound).

My Yamaha RX-V1 works wonderful for me (even though it doesn't have hdmi)
but it cost me $2,200 when I bought it new.

You could try a Denon AVR-1708 receiver
    $500

I just looked up that Harmon Kardon receiver you listed and it looks like it has nice features. I just haven't had luck with previous models, but that one looks good.

This link might help you with any questions about that HK receiver

thanks for the link. From the sounds of thing the problems lie with the first generations of the 247's. HK seems to have exelent coustomer service that is willing to replace the reciever if there is a problem with it.
