so ive gotten quite bored with my standard routine and the evening workouts. Im thinking of giving this a try:

    http://www.mensjournal.com/healthFitness/0602/workout_20minutes.html

i know im gonna get a lot of shit for the mens journal link.
Ive been on f&n for almost as long as ive been on ot, and been doing the whole squat/bench/dead thing for most of that time.

    My reasons for the change:

    1. new/original routine.
    2. do this in the mornings
    3. incorporates cardiovascular training (need for soccer)
    4. get away from heavy weights for some time
    5. overall change

Im thinking ill do these workouts and supplement with whatever weight lifting I feel necessary afterwards.

CrossFit will build up your metcon pretty quickly - but don't neglect the squat, bench, and deadlift with heavy weights.

The normal schedule is 3 days on 1 day off ongoing.

Depending how athletic you are, some workouts can take less then 10 minutes. For example, workout 7 can be done in under 3 minutes. They'll still knock you on your ass, but you'll be ready to go by the next day.

I noticed though, that most of the routines on that website are scaled to girl weights.

i'm sure thats really going to overload your muscles as opposed to 5, 60 minute workouts a week

Some of Hamster's WODs take only 5-7minutes, and his Deadlift has gone from 400ish to 501 in the past 5 months, Squat from 400ish to the mid to high 4s, and he's a lot more cardiovascularly fit.

    Yep

I'd say it's doing a good job of overloading

yes but most crossfit people are not actually strong, there are exceptions tho.. a lot of them are very fit and are "jacks of all trades" but i've never really seen the point of doing that, but thats just me.

Both - run through the program with the given weights first, and see how it feels. If you want to know full guys weight just shoot me a PM and I'll let you know - there's only a few that are affected.

I think it also varies by the crossfit gym and their goals/instructors. I can see why people would do it in general, it promotes athleticism and if you eat right seems like a good way to shed bodyfat and get in good shape, which is usually what the average person wants. Plus they can do it in different events and challenges in a group environment instead of having the same routine 3-6 days a week in a gym.

Right - crossfit is definitely a jack of all trades type deal and there is only a very small handful of crossfit gyms that incorporate strength training cycles with heavy weight in addition to the workouts. You'll be better the most people at most things from endurance to strength, but chances are you're not going to win anything on a pure crossfit routine.

i dont think it varies at all, crossfit is not a strength oriented training scheme at all.

Like Memor said, it varies from gym to gym. For example, mine (SoCal) cycles strength training with the normal crossfit stuff. In comparison, the one my brother goes to( Sunnyvale) has workouts that are geared towards rock climbers. And then there's BrandX which has stuff geared towards MMA.

Most however fall into the jack of all trades catagory.
