    as my first bike?

"1998 Suzuki Katana GSX 600; about 1200 miles; price:
$4,000; garage kept; couple of superficial scratches from
    being dropped"

it is from a friend of a friend. I am a little wary of the "being dropped". I have never heard anything good nor bad about the Katana and since i am very new to this, i figure i would ask the experts. I take my MSF course on May 3rd weekend.

make sure teh frame is not cracked from being dropped look for chipping paint or fresh paint around the welds

Kats are good first bikes. IMO cause theres power there for you but not an assload that will bet you into serious trouble fast. As for being dropped, Ya check the welds and see if the forks are staight
