    They are fun to drive and very toss able.

    i'd look at a 325i or a 328i for that price range.

    I remember reading in Eurotuner about 2 years back a guy who pretty much did a whole E36 M swap in to the hatch. pretty bad ass.

    I know a few locals that have. There is a guy running the 2.8 engine in one as well as a fully swapped S50 M3 in another. A good friend of mine has one in stock form, it's a fun car.

    Just beware: There are shitloads of things that go wrong on them and they're absolutely horrible to work on. I have an E36 and to change the clutch I needed to remove a shitload of stuff, and all of it was a bitch to do. BMW seriously paid no mind to the mechanics who would be working on these cars in the future.
