That's what I want to know, too.
I've got plenty of rifles but am new to the handgun market, why not?
What will you be using this gun for?
If you're just using for target shooting the porting can be beneficial by reducing muzzle flip...
If you're using it for self defense and have to fire it close into your body or at a weird angle its going to blow hot gas into your face, plus the muzzle flash will be more visible which can temporarily reduce your ability to see in low light.
I love mine. The muzzle flip and recoil feels like a 9mm. Don't get it if you're planning on using it as a carry or personal defense. If you have to use it in the dark don't expect to see anything after that.
But, but, but...it looks cool at the range.
I'm with the guys, no need unless you're just plinking.
I'd go with a Glock
Glock threads are that way -->
News Flash.. XD's done have much recoil or muzzle flip to begin with.. I can shoot my .40 with one hand
If it's for carry:
1. as said before, possibly hot gas in your face and flash screws up visibility
2. i'd just get a 3in SC
if you get it, get a stainless slide FTW
I am looking for one for a CCW, so from what i heard, NO PORTING!
OK, well i guess i am on the look again for something else.
Thanks for all the info.
Just get the non-ported version?
You da man!
How much did you pay for your Operator?
Jealous I see
Great gun... but like these guys said, no need for the ported version.
just go with teh unported compact or Sub-compact.
thats not saying a whole lot. i can shoot my .44mag with one hand too, that doesnt mean its got low recoil.
My XD .40 has a good bit of muzzle flip. It isn't huge and I could easily shoot it one handed but I could see where a ported model would seriously lower it down.
I think the ported look cool. I wouldn't get a ported for carry or defense though for the reasons mentioned.
Croation pistol rip off (OVER PRICED)
I have the non-ported normal XD 40 and I love it, you should just check into getting one that isn't ported.
