actually, JBL is a top performer in the Pro Audio Field, respectable in home audio, and i've always been impressed by the car audio stuff. By the way, they are part of the Harmon International Group (Harmon Karden, Mark Levinson, http://www.harman.com/brands/index.jsp) So, while it's easy to make jokes because it's *teehee* JBL, please realize what you're saying.:wavey:

the only real reason we dropped the line was dealer cost was so high, and map was so low... they hardly ever came back, but we just did not have enough interst in our market to be able to support the line fully.

I could see that. that's one of the unfortunate things about the retail market. It's like alpine has one of the highest dealer costs, yet to be competitive you have stay below a 40 point margin on it, or else everyone will blow you away. that's one of the big reasons JL has the market saturation that it has, selective territories and low low cost. If most of the world realized what kind of markup was on JL and even Diamond, I think the opinion of the products would drop substantially.

thing is alpine is built well enough to demand the high cost... as little as we have fail, and as well as the products performs... it's almost like it's built by aliens... the less RA's you have to do, the less you lose in shipping. if you have a high failure rate, you better hope you had a high markup on the product. jl we dropped because we're in truck country, and their subs were too deep. plus the fact that in the 10 years we sold them they never changed the subs... but this was back when credence was making the woofers for jl and kicker, and we were offering both companies.

 i think we only sent one of those back ever. but the one with the organic style lighting was the one that we had all the trouble with. I never sold another high end alpine radio with moving face after we sent those back

we sent one back... but it was because a kid had it in a jeep, and smashed his knee into it off-roading... and it got knocked out of wack.
