Whenever I get depressed, I listen to Dashboard Confessional. The other day I listen to their newest CD (10 tracks) 6 times in a row. :( :o

I happen to like a local band who seem to go off :p well i think they do, not alot of people share my point of view.

Depends on the mood really, sometimes i go for the acoustic stuff, but most times it is death metal. I couldnt stand to live without my guitar, that is the best thing :)

If you like dashboard confessional, i can suggest a million other albums you would like. Do you dig rawer more emotional stuff, or smoother more accesible stuff?

IF you like dashboard, then the new amsterdams are your new favorite band. very similar sound/content, awesome. both albums are good.

    I can make specific recomendations.....

Best feel calm and happy band ever: Appleseed cast. unreal, but takes a while to get into. give them a chance. earlier stuff is at times very loud raw stuff while the later stuff is more mellow easier to listen to. low level owl is AMAZING.

    other good bands,

saves the day - try im sorry im leaving, or firefly, or sell my old clothes. most of their stuff is awesome. the earlier stuff is a little raw and if you arnt into punk stuff might take some getting used to, but anyone can like the new (stay what you are) album tho imho the vocals are very emotionally subdued. anything off the 'sorry im leaving' album will sound very dashboardy but rawer...

get up kids: overdue, last place you look, valentine, michele, umm... these guys are amazing. cept for 'the on a wire' album they can do no wrong.

American Football - Awesome band. Very chill. all thier stuff rocks.

boy sets fire- lots of good stuff here too. My life in the knife trade is not to be missed, great wallowing song. and 'after the euology' the song is GREAT for getting you pumped up and angry... No matter how sad you are you will be shaking your fist and screaming 'wheres your anger, wheres your fucking rage' halfway through the song. good next to tool - sober

face to face - These guys are AWESOME. Good punk rock that will make you feel better. The first 4 cd's are the best imho, but they have never made a bad CD and ignorance is bliss is very easy for a non-punk to get into.

also check out onelinedrawing - your letters, um, sixes, most of his stuff is very good.

If all this stuff is too punk rock for you,

try nick drake - good oldschool folk
cat stevens - lots of good stuff... try the wind.
    cat powers - get ' i found a reason'
    aerosmith - 'dream on'
sunny day real estate - 'tearing in my heart'
tracy chapman -' fast car '

if anyone is actually still with me, i can make many more suggestions...... Most of these artist have tons of great stuff (cept for aerosmith ;) ), so those songs are just to get started with

If I am feeling upset about a relationship, I tend to put Bush "Glycerine" on repeat.

Any other time I listen to VNV Nation: "Beloved", "Darkangel", "Left Behind", "Genesis".

The VNV in VNV Nation stands for Victory Not Vengeance. Their idea behing the name VNV is: "It is better to constantly move forward than to sit in bitter regret."

It struck a chord with me and their music just really works for me.

I like to listen to uplifting rock music. I feel "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World, will bring me up when I am down. There are a few bands that will just lighten my day when I am feeling down. The Goo Goo Dolls are one, I could listen to whole CDs over and over again and it makes me feel better. Sheryl Crow is upbeat. When I am upset, I usually want to feel happier, so I try to listen to music that is upbeat or just plain hard-core to help me. Sevendust rocks!

Being white and stupid, Eminem sometimes makes me feel better, but I listen to a variety of bands, depressed or not.
    KoRn
    Puddle of Mudd
    The Casualties
    Sublime
    Moby:fawk:
    And some other oldies, too.
    Steppenwolf
    Eric Clapton
    Led Zeppelin

Prolly more, but I have the memory of a rat on acid.

    EDIT: Pink Floyd :uh:

umm...yeah...have you heard their old stuff, songs not on the radio, or seen them in concert (twice by the way, and got my ass kicked both times in the pit), but they are the nicest guys in the world.

They were on tour with creed when they came out here recently... I'd classify Sevendust as Hard Rock.... But then thats me... Still good all the same.
