I've never been in the military or even fired a gun. I'm leaving for China soon and plan to visit the China North Shooting Range outside of Beijing.

I want to fire a mortar round, but don't want to get blown up like the guy I wrote about in this blog.

Does anyone have experience with mortar? I'd like to hear about it if you do.

    Thanks!

Looks like the place your going is aimed at foreign tourists the chinese gov doesnt want tourists getting blown up, you'll probably be fine, the insurgent who blew himself up was probably using rounds that have been buried in the desert for 5+ years.

Yeah the M224 is the current issue of mortar teams, it uses a 60mm round that can be set in 4 different explosive detonations, sucks to be you in you are in a mortar team, that shits heavy. Hope ya like walking alot.

Actually something else is going on in that video. Unlikely to happen to you at a shooting range where the ammo source is closely controlled.
