Pretty sure I either use Media Player Classic or VLC for those. Most of the time they work in media player classic, but some just do not want to work so VLC plays almost anything. I just like the controls for media player better.

Only other thing I can think of would be Quicktime. If that wont play it, it might be a borked file.

    cccp pack and use MPC-HT

though its pointless if you're attempting to decode mkv's approaching 720p with anything less then a dual core and 7800 series equivalent video card

Either MPC or KMplayer, but I tend to use KMplayer a lot more.

i don't know about current versions, but there was a bug in VLC for atleast 3 years were if you locked your pc or used mutli logins VLC would just shit itself and consume 100% cpu of the cpu/core because it lost the handle to directx

For whatever reason a lot of subbers are coding their subs in so that they don't work well with VLC. There was something about the company that makes it that they are rebelling against. GG was pretty active in it, their subs for toradora looked like shit when played through VLC but through any other player it looks fine.

I noticed it again with the release of the second TTGL movie, subs were fine up until the final battle. At that point the font size ended up taking up the whole screen. I watch most of my stuff through a WDLive player now but if it's something I have to watch on computer I'll still use VLC. If it's buggy I'll go to WMPC.

If I recall correctly, VLC had really shitty sub processing with no formatting. It was one of the reasons I got sick of it and moved on.

What is a better player for stuff with soft subs then VLC? I usually use MPC for anything with hard subs, but I cannot seem to get it to work with soft.
