I make my own holsters so I usually slip a little piece of leather scrap between my tool and anything I don't want marked.

I use snakes on all my guns, but I use foaming bore cleaner after a few times.

I snake everything. Normal punches/roll pin punches when needed, non marring hammer and action block for my ars.

I use a good one piece rod when cleaning at home. I only use bore snakes at the range because I don't want to lug a full size rod.

While bore snakes do a really good job when clean, and on it's first pass. It is not the greatest on follow up passes or when it's filthy. I have heard people refer to it as wiping your ass with dirty toliet paper. YMMV. Again I use bore snakes but I mainly a one piece rod.

Invest in some decent brass and nylon punches.

I pad the bench vise jaws with some extra-coarse rasps and reef that fucker down before breaking out the 20oz framing hammer for some fine-tuning.

I like to use allen wrenches in place of certain roll pins/pins while I'm tapping the pin in place.
