You don't you buy a midlength barrel. it's just easier that way if your talking about gas systems. If you want to just run a free floating midlength handguard, thats easy.

i don't know enough to care about the gas systems, i guess. i just prefer the look of the midlength hand guard over the carbine. :dunno:

so you just swap the barrel and the handguard? whats the difference in the gas systems?

A midlength gas system is a couple inches longer than a carbine gas system. Basically they drill the hole for the gas further down the barrel. It makes for a smoother and more consistent gas flow. In other words, its not worth your time or money to try and convert a carbine gas system to a midlength. You just buy a new barrel.

If you don't want to change the barrel you can just change the handguards to midlength handguards provided you have a low profile gas block.

if you plan to put on a scope or something on that flat top get a barrel without a front sight.

Even if you put a scope on it even a 3-9 on 3 power will just show a barely visable blur at the bottom of the glass. Having said that, I think it looks silly to have the front sight (at least no flip) on scoped gun. Scopes on carry handles are even worse :eek4: .
