    i searched about 3-4 pages back and didn't see anything on it. i want a smaller caliber/pitsol size than my XD40 for ccw and for carry at the deer lease. At $119 it seems like a steal. Same style as the Bersa .380 I was looking at today but in a more attractive 9mm caliber. I am assuming this place deals in used firarms only. What do you guys think?

    MAKs are great guns for the money.

    Umm, I thought 9x18 is standard 9mm ammo. I was told today that .380 is getting hard to come by and if you find it get as many boxes as you can.

    yeah I was right.
    9x18 = 9mm Mak
    9x19 = 9mm = 9mm luger = 9mm para
    .380 is between those 2.

    with that in mind, sportsmansguide has 9mm Mak for $9.77/50

    well, I would like to find something in similar size in 9mm but i'm not gonna find one for the price of the Mak or the Bersa.......sucks. I'll probably end up getting the Bersa and stock up on ammo.

    I was looking at PA63's and CZ52's for my first gun.
    Ended up oing with the CZ52
    Czech guns are reliable and built well. Not to mention my ex-green beret great uncle told me they have a roller bearing design similar to the HK G3. Plus 7.62X25 for a handgun is :coold:

    But either gun is a good starter.

    .380 = 9x17
    Mak = 9x18
    Luger = 9x19

    Mak ammo is cheap and plentiful. I'd get a mak over a Bersa any day.

    you are correct

    .380 has also been called 9mm Kurtz, standing for 9mm short

    Except that, and I'm surprised I'm the first to say this, those aren't Makarovs. They use Mak ammo and are reliable enough combloc weapons, but are knockoffs of Walther pistols.

    I own a PA-63, got it from AIM. Mak ammo is hard to find in stores, the first time I was ever able to find any it was $14/box. Online stores can get you good deals, you just have to look a bit and be sure to buy Brown Bear/Silver bear. From what I have read, the PA-63 doesn't have a very strong frame, since it was made to be light. Supposedly, running more than about 95 grain ammo can cause a KB, which eliminates most of the HP ammo I've seen, and anything made by Wolf. The other big issue with this gun is that it hurts. If you have tiny girly hands it won't be a problem, but there isn't much space for the web of your hand between thumb and forefinger, causing it to bite your hand. I've had probably 8 different people shoot my PA, and only one of them said it didn't hurt to shoot.

    To be honest, I would consider buying a real Makarov, but not another PA. Its been a very reliable gun for me, just too many little things involved in shooting it that make it not worth my time.

    .380 probably wont be hard to find ammo for for a real long time 9x18 is much harder to find ammo for.

    The round itself isn't what I would call strong enough to let you use a jhp yet so I'm not that impressed with it over .380 or anything. Also if I were going to get something that shot 9x18 I'd get a real makarov.

    Great gun and a great price. I shot one a few months ago and loved it. I have small hands so it never bit me. It has a really nice kick to it too.

    :uh: someone didn't read the thread

    ...I've heard for a lot of Makarov's, you can get a barrel to convert to .380 auto, uses same mag, just a more commonly available cartridge.
