Im thinking about getting on of these bikes as my first.

Anyone have one? I want to get a 2001 probably or a 2000. As long as there is no major body changes from the 2001's to the 2000's. I really like the silver 2001's.

Im looking to spend probably like $3500 and the mileage around like 10k.. Is that a reasonable price range for that kind of bike?

I first wanted to get an r6 but they seem to be a little bit more expensive.

The F4i is a better choice than the R6 for a first bike IMO. But thats because I have a hate for all the tools that buy R6's as their first bike. :hay:

Im not sure about the price, etc.

as far a first bike... a 600cc is not consider a beginners bike, but if you want a 600cc the F4 is slower in the 600 class and a little heavier,,, if you treat her nice with respect you should do OK.. the R6 is smaller, lighter, faster and it'll bite you in the ass alot quicker... the F4i is a nice looking bike. I was going to get a F4i, but I changed my mind...

I'm not the one to give any advice here since I started on a 04, R6....

Well i have riding experience with dirtbikes and such.

And it if is slower, i dont really mind. Im not going to be pushing it to its limits or tryin to top speed or anything.

I like the looks of the r6's alot better, but the price for a 2001 f4i seems to be like $1000 cheaper than the price for a 2001 r6

I see they are members of OT also. :hay: Do you have matching leathers and helmet for your bike also?

You should have manned up to be a true squid and got a liter bike as a starter like me. :coolugh:

umm you are not gonna find any supersport newer than 2000 for that price unless its wrecked or stolen.

theres a huge difference between the 2000 honda f4 (theres no such thing as a 2000 f4i) and the 2001-2005 honda f4i.... you might be able to find an f4 for around that price.. maybe, but not an f4i.... f4i has dual seats and dual headlights... compared to the single split seat and single headlight on the f4.... the body work is also difference, the f4i is lighter and makes more power... it also has electronic fuel injection while the f4 (and the 99-2001 R6) has old carbureators.

    2001-2002 f4i, r6, gsxr600, zx-6r, are all gonna run about $4500-5500
    2003+ f4i, 600rr, r600, 6r, are all gonna run $5500+

year makes more difference than brand as far as performance goes... ie a 2000 honda is better than a 99 yamaha/gixxer/ninja... but then a 2001 gixxer is better than all those, so is a 2001 honda... but a 2002 is even better, and a 2003 yamaha is better than all those, and a 2005 nonja is better than even those... bike technology advances almost as fast as computers. yamaha tends not to change the look of their bike much so you might think that a 2001 and a 2004 r6 is the same.. but the 2004 is on a whole different level

    heres a 99-2000 honda f4

are you sure.. maybe you are looking at 2001 championship edition r6... the 2001 r6 doesnt even have fuel injection... its very primitive by todays standards... the 2001-2003 f4i is alot more advanced than the r6 of that time.. the new 04-05 r6's are ALOT better

when I started looking for a bike I remember that I wanted a F4i.. but then I started falling for the 01-02 R6... I hated the looks of the 04 R6. the black frame was just plain ugly to me.. then the first time I got on a older R6 I felt kind of big on it.. the bike feels alot small... (and I'm a tall guy 6'2") the F4i was perfect in size but it was to comfortable, it didn't have the aggresive feeling, the I sat on a 04 R6 and it was just in between.. after giving it some thought and lots of think,, and looking at 100's of pictures it grew in me.. and I made my decision...

I think the 04 R6 have a incredible handling... that thing will bite the pavement hard. and it have a incredible acceleration...

it's all about time, and getting to know the bike... when you spend lots of hours on your bike,, you will bond so much that you will feel like your part of it.

this was the first bike that I felt in love with.. then it was a red, then yellow, then gray and black, then 01 R6, then 02 R6 then 04 R6... it was fucked up..

one of the reason why I decided to go brand new was because I was looking around local dealers and they were asking literaly $700 less for 01 R6 and like $1000 less for a 02 R6... fucking thieves... I wanted to buy from a dealer.

so I just but it brand new.. I got it down to $7500

a cheap dual headlight supersport is the older 2000-ish kawasaki ninja zx-6r's

ill admit that the r6 has the sexiest look... but this thread is a prime example of when i said that squids go straight for an r6 as their first bike just because of looks making it the squid's bike of choice
