    Current Equpiment:
    -Nikon D50
    -Nikkor 18-55 (kit lens)
    -Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8
    -Sigma 10-20mm
    -Nikkor 50mm f/1.8
    -Tamron AF Pro 2x TC
    -Nikon SB-600

Future purchases probably in this order:
    -Nikon D300
    -Tamron 28-75 f/2.8
-Sigma 12-24 (supposedly way better distortion handling over the 10-20, plus it will work with FF)

I'm trying to build my FF lens collection. I'm assuming that after I've used the D300 for a few years I'll be ready to upgrade to a lower cost FF camera.

I saw a "beast" pop up on craigslist the other day for 1250 bucks... but I couldn't do that yet. Maybe another one will pop up before I'm ready to get the tamron :o

Any thoughts on a better plan for FF lenses to look at instead of the ones I listed?

why not get the glass first? the glass upgrades will improve your shots more than the new body will, methinks

i think you should get rid of your 18-55 and the 10-20. the 28-75 and 12-24 will overlap with the 18-55/ 10-20 and you won't really ever use it.

honestly i have a 17-35 and a 70-200 and i never use my other lenses. maybe the 50mm sometimes but i really have no need for my other stuff.

if you're basing your whole plan on going ff, you minus whale get the d700 now and roll that way. The extra step in bodies is a 100% waste of $$.

I forgot to mention that in my first post. That's what I'm planning on doing. When I go to buy the D300 I'm' going to sell my D50 with the kit lens and 10-20mm.

I'm not OT-rich enough to afford the D700 right now. My D50 has lasted me 2.5 years now. I figure if I buy a D300 now and use it for about the same amount of time as I used my D50, then by the time I'm ready to upgrade that, there will be an even nicer FF nikon body out there.

I would probalby end up buying the D300 and Tamron 28-75 at the same time anyway.

reverse the order of your 'future purchases'

buy that glass first, use it on your d50. See how you do with it.
    You might surprise yourself.

move to Canon and get a 5D for 50% of what the D700 will cost
and I find Canon used glass prices to be better since there is more out there

Instead of buying a new body (as tempting as it was) I decided to spend money on lighting.

I guess I could. I don't actually plan on getting the D50 for a few more months. I have a few projects I wanted to finish up first and use the D300 as a "reward" :o

Yeah, instead of buying a D300 I got the SB-600, 50mm, 80-200 and Tamron TC instead

If you bought the glass first, plus some additional Speedlights, light stands, and light modifiers (umbrellas, etc.), I guarantee your images would be better than with the D300.

Anyone have the Tamron 28-75? it might be worth it to me to buy that one sooner rather than later. I'm going on a 2 week trip through Europe at the end of August. Maybe I'll buy it before then to use in place of my 18-55 :noes:

I'm going to hold off on the 12-24 as long as I'm using my D50 because the only advantage to the 12-24 is the lower distortion and FF support.

Tokina 11-16, not the Sigma 12-24. IF, in 3 years you do get a FF you can get the Nikon 14-24. Until then, Tokina is more better.
