I need to get some new solvents and what not and was wondering what you guys would reccomend. Theres a new solvent out called Wipe-Out that is apparently great for carbon, power, and copper fouling; you spray it down the barrel and it foams up, then you just run patches through until they come out clean. I was going to order some through midway and with shipping and "special handling" it came to $23, double the price of the can itself. Anyone have an reccomendations for something that's safe (i.e. won't eat a finish off) and easy to use?

I have a Nagant that I bought a few months ago. It had been totally fillled with cosmoline, I cleaned it out ( or so I thought) took a few shots with it, and now it seems I can't ever get it clean. I've tried Sweets 7.62, etc but it's not quite agressive enough. Any suggestions?

just so you guys that haven't figured it out yet will know: hoppe's no. 9 eats brushes. rinse them well or you'll be buying them often, because between uses, the bristles will go from the right size to one caliber smaller.

i use for regular cleanings of my AR: an otis kit with break free as my solvent/lubricant/magic-fluid.

for 50,000 mile tuneups, the normal stuff, plus butch's bore shine is what i've been using. i haven't had to use BBS in my AR, but i did use it in my No. 4, Mk. 1, and it does work. there was an ungodly amount of copper in that barrel. as far as cleaning the bore, nothing is better than the otis kit. for cleaning parts and stuff, i just get a bag of large patches/scraps from walmart. they're like cut up pieces of undershirts and underwear, but they're soft and pretty big. great for cleaning parts. i need more otis patches.

Hoppes #9 to clean, Shooters Choice Copper Remover for pesky stains on the older guns, and for lubes; Break Free, Militec1, and Militec grease.

The shooter pistols usually get an ultrasonic bath after use too on the range's dime. :big grin:
