I usually run at night around 11pm and need a good snack or meal to have beforehand that will give me energy, however I don't want to be eating carbs that late.

    Any suggestions?

Eat a banana, it won't kill you.

I always eat a banana immediately after running to help with recovery.

Then why worry about carbs pre-workout if you're gonna eat them post-workout anyway?

How does a banana pre-running and a double whey protein shake post-running sound?

Protein isn't necessary after a workout. Since you're running late at night, why not do the banana pre-run and then some cottage cheese or milk before you go to bed.

Light cardio with lifting isn't bad. Heavy cardio is detrimental to muscle gains apparently.

If I jog in the morning I eat a package of oatmeal an hour before, but that's on long jogs. Other than that I just get up and go on an empty stomach for shorter jogs. :)

Evenings I usually have had my snack or something a couple hrs before.
