When you are about to start a cardio workout, such as a long run or sprints, what kind of warm up do you do? I usually just stretch and then begin, but my friend does warm up laps on the track.

cardio is my warmup usually, I just stretch for like 2 seconds and go. Probably optimal to do some high-kicks or jumping jacks or something, get a light sweat going, then stretch a little and go for it. Not a lot of data out there really supporting pre-workout stretching as beneficial.

So is a warm up lap around the track a good idea? I always feel sluggish in the beginning of my run so maybe warming up will help?

    for sure

I just start off slow at first, maybe about 5 minutes, then go for it. Not for running specificially, but for any cardio activity in general. Stretching does not get the blood flowing enough for a proper warmup for me.

My warmup consists of popping 2 or 3 pills of cardio breeze, sitting on the couch watching tv for 10-15 minutes to let it hit, then jump on the stationary bike for 30-45 mins.

I'll warm up a lot more if I'm doing cardio in the morning. Usually I start off with low impact marching / running in place and move into jumping jacks, run lunges, etc. Then stretching, then a bit more running in place / jumping jacks, then start the cardio workout.

In the afternoon I usually feel pretty loose already and cut the warm up down a bit.
