I've finally gotten around to buying all the components necessary to build myself a larger/safer photo storage set up.

Just ordered 2x640GB HDDs, a NAS which i will be running in raid 1, new router w/ gigabit ethernet and wireles-n, gigabit ethernet card for my desktop, and necessary cables. Eventually i may get an 802.11n card for my lappy.

This will be used while still maintaining my practice of backing up each shoot/job on DVD. Eventually i plan to make dupes of my back up DVDs and keep a set at my parents' home, 500mi away, for extra safety.

So, I was just wondering, what is everyone else using/doing?

lol damn son. you live next to a volcano or something?

i only have 1 external drive with all my photos but yeah, i've been getting kind of scared. i'll get a RAID1 soon too. I feel like 2 copies of a file are enough. So probably RAID1 drive + my computer hard drive when i get a new computer.

hard copies are always good but it just builds up soooo muuuuuch -falls over-

haha, well considering my photos are my livelyhood, i kinda want to make sure nothing can happen to them, wether it be a hard drive failure, natural disaster, or theft.

Oh, which reminds me i should maybe consider getting an UPS for the NAS, and maybe a cable lock :mamoru:

I have a WinXP based file server that I'm installing a 2TB RAID 5 array in. I just got the server finished up, now I have to add the array drives. I'm also using it for web serving and a home wiki.

I currently have everything on a total of ~900GB or so worth of storage, across three drives, on my Mac.

I have 2 folders on my PC one for originals and one for anything I work on. The originals are only RAW's and are really the only thing I save. NOt everything that is a RAW makes it to a final photo anyway but I still save it. It is on my external HD and I burn 2 copies onto DVD. One at my house and I keep a set at my mom's
