I had my 450D for about a year now and would like to upgrade (mostly because I want better ISO performance). I'm thinking of just getting a 40D but I'm also thinking of just waiting for the 60D although I can probably not afford it :hs:

Anyone have any idea of specs, features, price tag and release date?

If you wait for the 60D, eventually something better will be in the pipeline. It's inevitable for the next model to be better, so just buy the 40D now and enjoy it.

dude, why not wait when it's probably going to be at least similar megapixels to his 450d, will most likely have HD video, and will probably end up with the same or similar sensor technology out of the 5d MK II and have RIDICULOUS iso performance?

I mean, it all remains to be seen, but personally I think you should wait and see what comes out.

Most recent information is an August/September announcement and the price should be in the typical $1200-$1400 range for the xxD body. No real surprise there.

What you could probably count on for specs are:
    APS-C sensor
    15 Megapixels
    7 FPS
    1080p/30 HD video
    Autofocus in movie mode
    Updated battery (same as 5DMII)
Updated vertical grip (because of battery)
Updated WiFi grip (because of battery)
    DiGiC V processor
    14 bit color

On the maybe list for features:
GPS input or built in GPS receiver
Upgraded AF system (probably more fanboy wishful thinking than reality)
Either combo SD/CF card compatibility or SD card only
Fold out display (again, seems like wishful thinking on the part of some people)

Thanks for the info. And idea/rumours of what lens will come with it? I suppose my Tamron F2.8 will fit?

Having a 40D, and playing with the 50D, I think I'm going to upgrade to the 60D when the it comes out.

The minor tweaks on the 50D over the 40D I find handy. Especially the LCD.

These are roughly what I have been hearing, too. Except the prices I have heard rumored have been closer to 2K.

    Yep!

Kinda kicking myself in a way for not going prosumer from the get go like everyone told me to, but it was a good beginner's tool..

The only thing that sucks is, the longer we wait, the more the value goes down to sell it :(

That is VERY unlikely. There is no way they will leave the sub-$1500 market to the Rebel line only. The 50d is already apparently near end of life so it will only stay in the lineup as long as supplies last after the 60d is introduced. This has been Canon's M.O. For years.

Sell it now and just be without camera for a month or two (if the 60D really get released in Aug-Sep).

Indeed, I hope you're right, Jonny. Just reporting what I saw on a few Canon rumor sites. :wavey:

Geez, has the 50D really already been out that long?

I'd prefer it if they cut back on MP (which won't happen) and upped the shutter speed. I guess AF more in line with what Nikon is offering with their D300 and D700 would be nice... same as with viewfinder blackout time.

At the current viewer blackout times of the 40D 7 FPS would almost be too much. They need to work on viewfinder blackout before they push the FPS higher.
