My wife wants to carry concealed, I need a good list of selections to check out. I carry an XD45 compact, she's pretty proficient with it, but has expressed interest in a sub-compact. I'm thinking 9mm or .40, because I can't find any .45 ammo anywhere, and when I do, the cost gets up there for trips to range.

also the ruger LCP would be super tiny and easy to handle

ATXRX7's woman decided to buy something and we did the whole rent everything the range has to offer before buying ordeal. She liked a 640 the best.

She said she wants an auto, I didn't ask why. Any time I question her, I usually end up looking like an idiot, true story.

the lcp then, it's cheap, super small and easy to conceal, ultra light.

only down falls are the ammo is hard to find, and the .380 is a bit underpowered, but imo it would still get the job done although i know some people think if it's not .45 acp it's no good lol

I'll see if I can find someone on the local forum that has one, to try out. (no rental ranges here)

she might like an auto better and she might not. my point is that she should shoot a small wheel gun before buying anything to see what she thinks. in my experience women really seem to like them.

    this is true.

just because she likes shooting your pistol doesnt mean its the best fit for her, get her to shoot a variety of different pistols including a model 60 j-frame. my girl said she preferred the weight over the airweight models.

My experience is that men love giving women j-frames for some reason. I don't know why, they generally hate them, and for good reason. They're hard to shoot, recoil pretty harshly with many loads, have a long hard trigger, etc.

Take her to the store/range and let her handle a bunch of autos. Slim profile guns are usually a favorite, including the kahr although their reputation is kinda iffy.

  13. I'll echo Soybomb's comments. Laurel carries a 642 and loves it, but they're not for everyone. If she's thinking about buying a J frame, have her try one out. Now, I understand they're not range toys, and it doesn't have to be fantastic to shoot (you're not likely to be going to the range and running hundreds of rounds through it per trip for fun), but if she absolutely hates it she's never going to want to practice with it.

My wife chose a Glock 19. A friend of ours carries her Kel-tec P3AT and really likes it.
