Is it even possible to shoot underwater? How far will a 9mm travel underwater? There may or not be pics eventually :hs:

IIRC shooting into water doesn't work, however shooting underwater will work so long as there is no air in the barrel/chamber.

edit - and don't be in the water with the weapon when you fire it unless you don't like hearing things anymore.

If you were shooting underwater I doubt it would go 25 feet let alone 25m.

Mythbusters did two whole episodes on this. And they were actually two of the best-done episodes in the series. They blew apart a Garand because there was too much water to move out of the barrel, and it created too much pressure.

Basically, IIRC, pistols are more effective than rifles underwater, and the pistol bullet is effective for about 1-2 meters, tops.

Keep in mind that water is about 1000 times more dense than air.

Shouldn't. The pistols fired underwater, but were barely even dangerous, let alone lethal, after about 4 feet.

Shooting from air into water, the pistol shots went about 8 feet, and all the rifle shots stopped and just drifted to the bottom after 2-3 feet.

Water makes your gun pretty much useless.

Seriously watch the Mythbusters ep if you can find it - Joe_Cool is right - it was a really good one. Something about the higher velocity of the rifle rounds made them less effective shooting into water (from above the surface). They basically said at the end, if someone is shooting at you, and you jump into water and stay 5-6 feet below the surface, you'll be fine. (Unless they're using a spear gun I would imagine  )
