Is it mainly deer or something where they have stupid rules on the type of gun you can use or is there some benefit to the pump rifle? Do you have rules no semi autos on the deer and only a 4 shot mag?

I heard, don't quote me on this, that they were made so law enforcement can use a cheap gun to practice with .223 at the range.

We can use semi-autos while hunting if the magazine has a 3 round capacity

Some people like the simplicity of a pump. With a scope, you wouldn't have to take your eyes away from the scope to make a second shot. 4 rounds meets the Texas requirements for a hunting rifle, as it has a magazine with 5 or less round capacity. I don't know what they cost, but I can see the benefit of them for some people.

Thought the 3 round applied to shotguns only

They cost 1000+AUD in australia. I dont know if that is comparable.

On one hand , america has more mass produced guns but on the other hand Remington 7600 is the most kickass gun regular shooters can own in australia.

I have my 8 year old son shooting a Rem 7400 in .243. He has been shooting it since he was 6. I needed a caliber that you could be a bit "sloppy" with when deer hunting and needed to manage recoil. The 7400 has VERY little recoil. I cut the stock down and put a Limb Saver recoil pad on it. The first year when he was 6 I had him shoot 85 grain ammo to further help with recoil. The last 2 years he has been shooting Federal 100 gr with the Nosler Partion. It was a better choice than having him hunt with a .223.

PA does not allow semi-auto guns to be used for hunting. I believe there are other states that have the same requirement. In much of MD we cant even use a rifle, it must be a slug shotgun (no buckshot either).

hunting law vary by state and county... Some places only allow pump, some only allow black powder, some only bows, some don't care, some allow suppressors, etc. etc. etc.
