I have a laptop with a Pentium 4 3Ghz. CPU. I am looking to get a new laptop and they have Pentium M Processor's at 1.40 to 1.86Ghz. Are these faster than what I had or slower?

Thanks for the help. I tried to read Intel's information but could not figure out the difference.

My current one is a Pentium 4 I didn't know if they clocked it different with the M or what. But yes, I was serious. I would not have asked it otherwise. All the HP Laptop's I have been looking at are listed wiht these speeds. I bought my current laptop a year ago and it was a Pentium 4 3Ghz. Did they make laptops slower?

    rkf76, you are ignorant.

The whole point of the pentium M is to use less power, to give more life to laptop batteries. a 1.86ghz pentium M is about the equivalent of a 3ghz(maybe a little less) pentium 4. So its not really going to be any faster, but it will use less power.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_M for more info.

YOU are ignorant...neither the 1.4 or 1.86 will be equivalent to his current 3.0GHz chip, the 1.86 will be roughly equivalent to a 2.6GHz, so unless the power of a 2.6=the power of a 3.0, my initial response still remains..........are you serious?

you're a fucking idiot, don't try and play it like you knew the M's capabilities were.

you made it quite clear you didn't know in your first post.

I'd take the laptop with the 1.86GHz 750. I love mine (not in a laptop though).

so through it all, regardless of the elementary insults directed my way, I'm right, the newer chips would be slower than what he has/had. That is all.

I didn't know that? I didn't know that 3ghz is greater than any other processor speed listed in this thread? QFT. Tk- I built my first system from scratch, it's not rocket science. Matter of fact, it's horrendously easy. I can't wait to get my new 64 bit system built so I can graduate to the technology of the 21st century. I can handle the digs, it's all good, I guess I deserve it. No worries.

The question really is, what do you intend to do with the laptop?

A good practice system for him to fuck up before he does it with his $3000-plus toy :bigthumb: .

    What a tard.

    HAHAHAHAAHAA :bowrofl:

    We can deduct the following:

-He's quoting me on "horrendously easy." I'm the only person I know who says that frequently.

-I believe he is quoting LowFat on the "rocket science" bit.

-My Athlon XP is 21st century technology and I love it to death. So did you build a P3 Katmai system or something? Because those Slot 1 machines were only slightly more challenging than slapping in a Sonic 3 cartridge into a Sega Genesis.

I've serviced a few and built one myself...Using parts from a Presario 5700T. God, i wish I didn't give that build away...It was a fucking screamer and stable as balls. It had 400 something megs of RAM, a 500MHz P3, and a Voodoo3 3000 that I overclocked to be faster than a 3500.

I'll see if my friend will give it back...It was the fastest P3 I ever used.
