What cool Linux apps do you know?

I'm in a Linux course at my college right now and our 'big' final project is to *GASP*: install an application and show it to the class.

I know it seems like a simple task, but consideration is given to the uniqueness of the program and the 'cool factor' of what it does.

So I ask those of you familiar with Linux, what do you think is a cool Linux program?

By the way, I've looked around and have an idea of what I'll use (maybe xplanets if I can get it to install), I'm just curious what apps others know about that I wouldn't as a Linux 'newb'.

Install apache, configure it, and write a quick test page and host it.

While that would be a good choice, we're not allowed to pick something included on the Fedora Core 3 CD or that was explained in our books.

I like this but I don't know anything about using it. Is there a really easy way to make a ball or cube or something so I'd be able to demonstrate it?

You can download some samples off the internet and just get it to render them. In fact, it may even come with some samples.

MP3 decoding is licensed to Thompson/RCA, and RedHat is avoiding lawsuites by not including it.

    I really like anjuta

its a simple c/c++ IDE that is small and easy to use...probably my favorite development environment for linux apps

no matter what, you are using fedora so you will be installing .rpm which is pretty hard to fuck up

What a waste of time. Considering Windows will be installing off virtual memory too.
