Ok, excuse the shitty pic because a) it's on my camera phone, b) i'm not quite moved in yet and everything is messy and c) super shitty lighting conditions that my camera doesn't know how to deal with. My place looks much nicer IRL than it does in this pic.

You can't tell from that pic, but my floors are a beautiful dark wood. My couch is black. I was thinking some sort of lightish white/cream/etc. rug. And I was thinking something plush like a flokati style. Opinions?

You also can't tell from the pic but my living room is a good size. It extends for about 10 more feet to the right of the couch, but the couch had to go there because there's hallways and such to the right.

What are the rules for how large a rug needs to be? I heard 1.5-2' from the wall. Is that true? I will need a large rug then because from wall (couch) to wall (tv) my living room is like 13'. Here's a diagram to help:

Also, what should I cover my windows with. These green flower curtains were there when I moved in but I don't like them. Vertical blinds? My windows only go halfway to the floor. Some other curtain? Horizontal blinds?

i think cream is a great idea. something soft and muted that would serve its purpose but put the focus on the beautiful floors.

First, I would pick an accent colour that you want to go with, and carry that through on the linens and rug. You can go bold or muted, but the idea is to carry the theme through the room so it all looks cohesive.

    Check out www.homedecoratorsoutlet.com and www.homedecorators.com . . .

I have an awesome Wilton Wool rug from them at nearly 8' x 11' for $199 shipped. It's beautiful and thick and extremely

Also, www.annaslinens.com has amazing deals on curtains. I have several silk-esque panels from them and a couple of scarves that I used for my 18' tall windows in my living room.

Pics of the rug and curtains.

I think I read somewhere that it's supposed to go under it a little bit in the front like in my illustration. I really don't know what I'm talking about either, hence my threads here.

18' silk-esque scarves. Cost me like $60 + hardware - and nearly my husband's life - to hang them.

    And they're fucking crooked.

Ditch those curtains, buy a bigger tv and a cool-looking entertainment center and THEN worry about the rug.

VW, do you have a direct link to that rug? I can't find it on either of the websites you posted. I remember at the time you purchased it was onsale, but maybe it was a clearance sale.

It's called the Changes rug, and unfortunately, I only found it on the Decorators site in a different variation of colours, and only the runner, which seems odd.

I bet if you emailed them and asked for the blue/brown Changes rug, you might be able to track it down.

I have my house posted on Rate My Space, and I chuckle to myself a little every time someone says that my "rug really pulls the room together".

Hmmm, this is the only Changes rug I can find online right now:
    http://www.homedecoratorsoutlet.com/P/Changes_Area_Rug/120/

It's from the "Contempo Collection" so you may be able to find more of them there.

But, I was checking out the Outlet and found some that might be kind of cool in your space.

    $259 in 5x8.

Kind of busy, but interesting . . .
    http://www.homedecoratorsoutlet.com/P/Amora_Area_Rug/830/

Found the Changes for $799. :ugh:

Wow, my husband was pissed that I spent $200 on this rug - it's time I showed him what this thing is going for now. :o

    Going to.

once i find a good 42" lcd that is 120 hz for under $1400 (shipped and/or after tax)

i love my tv stand. i like minimalist entertainment centers. it looks lame in the pic but its like 5' wide w sliding glass doors. it will look sweet with a 42" tv.

Fair enough. In my opinion it wouldn't match the sleek, stylish, modern look that your TV is gonna have :dunno:

Strange. I think a slim TV would look awesome on it.

I guess we will see. I'll post pics.
