I'm looking into getting some cologne. What do you guys think I should get? Does the smell have anything to do with personality, or do certain colognes smell better than other colognes 100% of the time? Is it perhaps situational? Need helps.

Different scents work in different situations and for different people.

More subtle and old fashioned ones are best for me. I wear Givenchy most of the time.

It has a lot to do with the mood and what you are trying to portray. Some smells have a fresh smell while other are musk based. I suggest going to a department store and smell what's out there. I go to sephora myself. They will make a sample of any cologne the have for you...that way you can try it in a real world aplication. Happy hunting!!!!

There is a really good cologne thread somewhere on this board, it's worth reading most of the pages of the thread. I think it's probably in the style lab or something. Search for it if you can.

Personally I don't wear cologne very often but when I do it's usually either "Very Sexy for Him 2" or "Polo Sport". My brother and I share a small collection which also includes "Realm" , "Gravity" , and "Joop". Those 3 smell pretty good but the first 2 have a very strong scent and the last one is a little fruity smelling. I prefer something crisp and subtle.

Go into a sephora and have the girls help you try on and find sents with notes you like. They can also give you sample little bottles of it that you can try on and wear before making a decision.

Very Sexy for Him 2 is discontinued, but it you really like it, some stores still have it for the semi annual sale which is ending soon, at 50% off, stock up!

Very Sexy For Him we still sell, but its a popular scent. A lot of guys wear it because A LOT of girls buy it for their SOs.

I personally like Kenneth Cole's Reaction in the green bottle. And another Kenneth Cole cologne, its newer in a burgundy bottle, and bon jovi is attacked to it.

BUT... GO TO SEPHORA! they will help better than a normal fragrance counter.

As stated by ww, there is a good thread on cologne here...definitely check that out. The thing about cologne is that it can smell differently depending on the person, along with how long the cologne lasts.

I usually wear Kenneth Cole Reaction. I've noticed that a lot of guys don't wear it, and I get SO MANY compliments from girls on it...I just wish it would last longer. If not that, I'll go with Aqua di Gio(sp?) and some others...I plan on picking up Creed Millisame Imperial soon.

I personally don't wear my perfume, so on my men I prefer lighter scents as opposed to those really musky manly smells. My bf got Lacoste Essential and it smells ammaaaazzziiiinnngggg

I'm not big on the 'musky' smelling calognes. I prefer the lighter 'sweet' smelling types.

Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana fits that bill pretty nicely IMO.

I'm kind of a seasonal cologne wearer, and heres my fav's.

Summer - Kenneth Cole Reaction: It's light and fruity, but still plenty manly... awesome for summer imo.

Fall / Winter - Polo Blue: What the fuck else needs to be said?

Spring - Call me queer, but curve soul is fucking orgasmic smelling...
