So I'm waiting for delivery on a 512MB RAM stick for my 1.2GHz iBook. Assuming it works, I'll be upgraded to a total of 768MB (up from 256MB).

Where should I notice the results most obviously? What sorts of things should my iBook be able to do faster than it could before?

I guess my biggest complaint is lagging when I've got a bunch of programs open.

For example, I might have Mail, Safari, MS Word, and Azureus open at once, and when I switch from one to the other, I often get that fucking spinning beach ball spinning away for a while before I can actually USE the program I just switched to.

Will more RAM help with this?

Yes. The main thing ram helps with is being able to run many programs at once.

x2. It should run a lot better though, 256 is just too little ram for the applications these days.

Shit, 256MB is to little to run most OSes these days. 512MB is the minimun RAM that should be used.

I put a 1 gig stick in my 12" powerbook and I noticed the starup time is a lot faster, and opeing and closing is faster. AIM still lags a little but probably because I didn't change the allocation of memory. 1 gig stick cost me 120 after rebate
