I want to build a portable fileserver. Nothing special, just something to carry around my data.

    Hardware I plan to use:
    - Asus P4S800
    - Intel Celeron 1,7GHz
    - 256 - 512 MB PC3200 RAM
    - Promise Fasttrak IDE Controller (4 Disks)
    - Lots of 3.5 " HDD's
    - Metal suit case

    Requirements:
    - Must be portable
    - Must store up to 8 HDDs
    - Must run as silent as possible
    - Must be able to run 24/7
    - Should cost as less as possible

    Questions:
    - What size of case should i choose?
Should I use a suit case at all? Any other options?

    - How to solve the cooling problem?
I'm not so concerned about the CPU, but more about the HDD heat. I've heard about modders using aloi pieces connected to the case to direct the heat out of the box, but ventilation seems more suitable to me. How big should the distance be between the HDD's?

    - What cushioning material?
Since it will be a portable box, what material should i use inside the case? Is noise reduction material an option?

    Looking forward to the answers.
