Does your state have emissions test?
    Safety inspections?
I would say an old Honda that hadnt been VTECH YO'd or nissan or yota.

Mine had emission test so I bought a $300 VW Rabbit Diesel they are emission exempt in my state.

I live in California, I'm not sure. My buddy bought a old Rabbit for $400, it looked super nice after he cleaned it up. He sold it for $1200 after. I think I'll check that car out. :bigthumb:

I'm partial to the 3g Accord (86-89) and Prelude (88-91); both can be found in decent shape for $1500 or less. Civics, clean 4th gens can sometimes be found for cheap, but my feeling is that you get a lot less car for the money. Any 90s Toyota with the 5S-FE (Camry, Celica) or late 80s / early 90s Corolla is a good bet too.

There are other options from other manufacturers, but none are as likely to be reliable or as good for the money, IMO.

Also, always get a manual over an auto, a manual trans is far less likely to break provided it worked when you bought it and you treat it right.

Would you buy that 1981 toyota? This car looks awesome, it would be a awesome car to slowly upgrade and replace new parts. The only problem is that the engine might fail. The man told me he did work on the engine and it runs fine. And I also remember him saying it will last forever if you I don't drive it like a race car. I assume there is no problems, but I'm afraid down the line it might. What do you guys think?

If you need a DD, do NOT get a running project car. You can either drive or wrench, not both.

Geo Prizm, it's a re-badged Toyota Corolla, but tend to go for less than it's Toyota badged sibling.
