Im going to be living in Japan for the next two years and I need to decide on what I am going to look for when I arrive. My budget is around $10k right now but thats subject to change. I've always wanted to own a Skyline GTR ( yes every ricers dream) but now I think I just want to narrow it down to what engine I want. SR20, RB25, or a 2JZ. What would you get if you lived here? STI, EVO, Skyline, Supra, Silvia?

City or country? If city, Id suggest those cheap mini cars they got that are good on gas.

Seriously though, I'd want to get either a Skyline GTS-t Type M or a Toyota Chaser Tourer V. But those cars are expensive to own, so a more realistic possibility would be a 180SX Type X. (They made it for 10 years for a reason: it's perfect.)

Im going to be in Okinawa which is a tiny ass island. My buddy has a tourer V, it looks pretty badass but I think he paid too much since its like a 95 or some shit. Im really leaning toward a Skyline GTS or an s14. But hatchbacks sound nice too I just dont know of any good ones beside a civic.

Pulsar GTi-R, Civic SIR2, Integra R, maybe even a well kept ae86...i'd think along the lines of stuff like that...all are fun cars that won't get you in to too much trouble

    RHD or no?

I'd be looking at an AE86. You can get a 240 any day of the week over here, maybe they are better kept in Japan though I have no idea. A RHD MKI MR2 would be sweet, but I'm a bit biased as I have an 86' MR2. Look for a supercharged 88'.

Well unlike AE86 or MR2, a Japanese 180SX is a totally different animal from the 240SX. It comes with more equipment and, more importantly, a blacktop SR20DET and limited slip. More to the point, they kept making the car up till 1998 (five years after releasing the S14 because it was so insanely popular), so you can still find pretty nice examples.
