The Audi is coming off lease in about 2 months, so it's time to figure out a replacement DD. My needs are a useable trunk and decent back seat (need to have room for the kid and pack for a weekend trip). My wants are reasonably comfortable in traffic, fun to drive (doesn't have to be sports car fun, I've got that covered when I feel the urge, but still, nothing boring) and some snob appeal. It will be a lease, so has to be new, and probably under 85k MSRP (which should give me plenty of cars to choose from).

I'm going to begin test driving next week and am curious to hear suggestions.

    Thanks

If I was buying a car under 85k it would be a Mercedes CLS550. There's just something about them that I love.

On the test drive list. I do love the look of the CLS. Unfotunately the CLS63 is probably a bit outside of the payment I can justify.

On the test drive list, though the residual seems to be surprisingly crappy. A nicely equipped 550 is also a possibility.

I like the look of the S5, though not sure I want another Audi. Nothing wrong with my S4, it's a fast, capable car, but it just doesn't move me in the same way my E36 M3 did.

I would go for the 550. Has room and power without the probs that come with an M car. Also, I have a e39 540 so Im a bit biased.

I said "snob appeal" not "lesbian appeal"

JK, but I'm thinking a bit more on the luxurious side. I've got the hard core sports car thing pretty well covered already.

I drove one, and it was fun, but I decided on a bit more luxury over performance, hence the CLS.

    Why not try another Audi?
Do they still have S6 Variants? That would be hot.

I settled on the CLS 550. There's a thread with pics in here somewhere.

I drove the CLS65, and it was a blast, but I couldn't justify the extra 20k.

That's why I didn't say "WRX STi". The Legacy has four doors and heated seats; Spec B just helps it get out of its own way. I'm all about driving a car that can liberate large amounts of potential energy at once when need be, as long as it gets good gas mileage on milk runs. A BMW would be nice, but frankly I'm burned out on the amount of maintenance Euros require. Subies are (supposedly) very reliable.

Okay, but what's considered routine maintenance, and how much does it cost?

Nothing if you get a new one.
