the local range has a small bore range, but I don't see anywhere that says what calibers are classified as small bore. even google searching didn't help.

Most likely they mean small bore rimfire like 22 long rifle.

How about calling up the range and finding out what calibers you can/can not shoot?

well, a local one here is called Gilbert Small Arms range and people were shooting shotguns and other long guns in there - so just call them and ask

Those long guns were probably carbines. IIRC you can't shoot any centerfire rifle rounds there.

This. I've never been to any indoor range that allows centerfire rifle ammo.

You should try the NRA HQ range. You can shoot centerfire rifle ammo there.

I always thought small bore was anything less than .30.

  13. There's an indoor range near me where you can shoot centerfire rifle. It's kind of a waste though, the range is only 75 feet long.

I read something about reloading a few years ago and they had anything under .27 being a smallbore, .27-.366 as a medium, and .375 and larger a big bore.

A local indoor range I go to has a two lane room where we can shoot rifles. But as stated, it's useless since it's about 50 yards, at the most.
