The next thing I'm looking to buy now is an AR, I was wondering what OT gunowners reccommend?

oh, yeah... forgot the specifics. I'm looking for the telescoping stock (M4 style), 16" barrel (also M4 style), was probably gonna buy a scope/sight later. I've also been liking some of the camo paint jobs that people do on them, but that's something that I may do down the road. For now i'm just looking for a good AR to start with

I noticed you're in Cincy, go out to Shooters Supply Shop in Loveland. They have the best prices on AR's around here. If they don't have something your looking for in stock they will order it for ya.

how much are we talking pirce-wise? Most of the ar's i'm seeing are between $800 and over $1000.

also, i've noticed that a lot of ar's that are out there are aluminum (in the action part of the gun). Is a relatively inexpensive all steel ar easy to find? So far I haven't had much luck in finding one under $1000.

Uh, aluminum in the action of the AR? What parts exactly are you referring to?

You can easily shoot 15,000 rounds through a quality stock AR with no problems so what are you worried about?

Anyway, buy a Bushmaster or RRA. Then go to TDI jus north of you (TDIohio.com) and take a class with your new rifle.

It depends on what you want. Just go out there and look for an idea of price. No AR is going to be cheap, so if your budget isn't around a $1000 at least you might want to put this project off.

i'm seeing a lot of the lower sections being aluminum (strong aluminum, used in guns, but aluminum nonetheless). I'd just prefer something that I know will hold up.

Are there any steel-recievered ARs out there, or are all of them aluminum?

COLT (law enforcment models not match target) or make your own from the best parts available. A good lower (from various companies) and an LMT upper (provided you dont get a lemon and LMT turns out a good amount of lemons :sad2: ) will make an M4 that is every bit as good as a colt for a bit less money. With anything else you dont get all the same features as a Colt M4.

if you dont plan on spending at least $800 for just the rifle alone, dont bother getting one anytime soon. :hs:

basically this is whats up with LMT:

they make M4 uppers that have ALL the features of a Colt M4, for less money. (but more expensive than, say, a Bushmaster upper)

Their quality control is nowhere near as good as Colt's. If you get a good one, it is every bit as good as a Colt, but you have more of a chance of getting one with some issue or another, ranging from minor blemishes, to excessive windage (canted FSB) to reliability issues. Mine looked good, and the windage was within spec (a little off but still acceptable)... but ened up having a mystery problem of not holding point of aim with an Aimpoint. Which would be indicitive of a lose barrel nut but that wasnt it. Something must have been out of spec. Anyway they are replacing it.

LMT does have good customer service, so if they send you an upper thats not right, they will do what they have to do to fix it or replace it.

But IMO with a Colt you are less likely to have to deal with customer service to begin with.

My friend bought a No-Ban RRA a few months ago, It seems more well made than any bushmaster I've handled/shot.

If I had to chose between a RRA and a bushmaster, I would choose RRA anyday.

But I like my Armalite :big grin:

I have a Stag Arms complete M4 style lower and complete M4 upper from CMMG Inc. and so far it's been flawless.

DPMS barrels are fine. nothing else from them, though. RRA is fine, except their barrels. inferior barrel steel and lack of standard chrome lining just kind of turns me off.

i'm leaning towards the armalite m15-A2 [M4 style barrel (16"), M4 stock (collapsable)].

I'm not very partial to all of the barrel work on the bushmasters. I'd prefer something more clean
