i used to use a combination of lavasoft's adware and spybot s&d, but they have not been doing the best job as of late.

On XP I have ZoneAlarm, Avast, and Spybot TeaTimer running at all times. I scan with avast then spybot once every few months.... I have never had a problem. My Vista boot currently has just ZoneAlarm and Avast, will probably load Spybot eventually but have only been on Vista a month or two.

BTW: I also just recently switched from IE6 to IE7 as my primary home browser. I still use IE6 only at work.

I don't have any issue with stopping/preventing malware from happening... I am talking about after someone's computer is already full of crap

I'm just running Avira on XP and the firewall on my router (DD-WRT V24 SP1). No problems.

    I don't run anything on Ubuntu ;)

Tea Timer is a bit much.

I just use Avast! for everything right now; it's caught a couple of things thus far, and nothing has ever made it past its scanner. If you keep your machine clean, you don't need half the "cleaner" software available.

    Malware Bytes

    also Avast/S&D/Adaware if needed.

Malware Bytes usually gets rid of most of the customer's issues at my work.
