Doesn't matter around here. I can go troubleshoot a circuit for four hours, come back to write the report and as soon as I sit down in front of a computer, the boss walks in and assumes that I have nothing to do since I am in front of a computer. He says "What are you doing?" it isn't so much of a question, as it is a segway for his tasking. Before I can answer, he has started his tasking. He's not the type to change his mind easily either. If you don't jump when he says to, even if you have legitimate work at hand, he gets pissed and starts raining on you for a long time. The truth is that he doesn't care what I am working on, he only cares about the tasking he is giving.

After seeing it happen to the guys on the shift, I try to explain to them in a tactful way how to handle that.

Sounds like an authoritarian leader who can't communicate effectively. Sucks to work for that guy.

I've trained the guys under me that if this guy asks you to do something, do it now and come back to what you are working on. One guy hasn't heeded my warnings and has been in a world of hurt for a couple of weeks now.

If you have kids... or you can go by yourself... Legoland is within 30 minutes of there. Was pretty fun... recommend it.
