Are these obtainable for recreational use?

Class 3? Tax stamp? Can us normal folks get them?

    Zombies are coming, you know.

Probably, I think I've seen live 40mm launcher rounds for sale before, it would be a DD $200 tax stamp a pop.

Ouch. Though, I'm piecing together my hypothetical, zombie invasion ready, MOLLE vest right now, and I ran across grenade pouches (which made me think to post this), so, I'd really only need/have room for about 2-3. :mamoru:

My vest has 4 grenade pouches, each hold 2 G29/30 mags nicely, could also be used for bandages.

I can't remember the particulars on what tax stamps you need for DD's, but I do remember that each individual munition is a $200 tax stamp, as is the launcher for such, if applicable. You also have to notify the ATF if you use the munition.

Sounds like actually using one in self-defense would prove ... troublesome at best ... for the average civillian.

You can buy them Form 4 or Form 1 them. But you also must comply with ATF explosive storage requirements and provide proof of said destruction of item.

Each item carries a $200 NFA transfer tax and requires all the usual stuff. The shit isnt cheap. A 40mm HE round is roughly $500-$600 when it's all said and done for the average guy like me, but I still plan on buying some when my M79 is finished.

Well they still currently produce DDs right? They're not like Machine guns where there's a limited number in circulation, right? If they're currently producing them, ~$800 a pop isn't too bad if you consider what some of these guys spend on mini-guns, and other belt-fed toys. But if they're limited in number, seems kinda stupid to blow one up, unless you have a lot, which would increase the value of said others.

Yeah there's no limit to the manufacture of DDs. Problem is safely storing any amount of grenade or HE round etc. Plus not just anyone will sell you the stuff. If you want quality flash bangs, HE rounds etc. Your gonna have to look.

10 rounds of HE could buy me another M79...

Not that anyone should, uh, plan on using a 40mm grenade or the like for self-defense... but if you did, the paperwork and inevitable inquries might make life far more difficult than if you'd just emptied a few magazines into the perp(s).

As david said, there are plenty of DD ordnance out there, but who the hell wants to sell it to Joe Blow? Could you imagine the law suits if a DD owner went crazy with that shit, or just did something stupid? No one wants to be sued for selling that shit, so, while it's legal to do so, the sales are typically self-limited to more governmental-types.

I'd prefer to NOT destroy my own home in the process of defending it.

I want to take a Mk 19 to a gun club one day. Who's going to tell you to stop shooting it?
