what are the downsides of using an lcd tv as a monitor?

    i want a new monitor/tv and thinking about upgrading to a 30' samsung lcd tv, what are the downsides etc in it besides the refresh rates in lower quality lcd tvs

    You can't watch TV and be on the PC at the same time

    Panels made for TV use have much lower resolution that monitors. That's fine if you're viewing it from across the room but crappy for desktop use.

    I've seen panels that claim 1920x1200 native res.... wouldn't that be okay?

    TVs around 30" typically have 1280x720 or 1360x768 resolution. Fine for movies and maybe games, but crappy for a desktop resolution. I think the only exception is the 32" Sharp Acquos at 1920x1080. Otherwise you have to go 37" or bigger to get 1920x1080 resolution.

    Inadequate resolution unless its really expensive. And if its over 30" or so, it is not practical for a desktop situation.
