I was doing the math and if I push myself I think I can drop 3-4 / week on a 1000 - 1500 / day cal diet. provided I take vitamins and get plenty of protein is there anything dangerous about this?

even if i'm working out during a fast cut it will affect muscle mass negatively?

yes. too much of a caloric deficit will start burning muscle at some point. gradually reduce cals and focus on burning the fat.

damn. I just assumed that since I have an abundance of fat that my body would burn that first. I guess I'll go to the 2 lbs / weeks goal

raise your metabolism and burn the muscle quicker on that big of a caloric deficit

"Doing the math" and actually doing it are two different things.

Most people quit after the second week on a 1k/day calorie diet. I guarantee that. It's just plain stupid and you're just setting yourself up for a huge binge after failing and then gaining 10 extra lbs on top.

Stop doing math and start exercising. There's nothing to it but to do it.

I did it for 2 days. I can see what you mean. I probably would have tanked after week or 2. since I don't want to loose what precious little muscle is under my fatness I bumped up to an 1800-2000 cal diet. that is just below what I'd need to reach my target weight for my wedding next year. I thought a little fudge room would be better than taking in way to many on a whim like "one ___ can't be than many cals"

here is a dumb question. if i'm doing light / mild cardio ie moderate walking / cycling. should I count that towards my needed calorie intake?

If I exercise more does that necessitate taking in more calories?

there's no shortcut, it just takes time. If you cut too many calories you risk putting your body in starvation mode and you won't be losing weight effectively. Figure out your maintenance and be sure to include an estimate of how many cals you are burning through exercise. Cut 300-500 cals from maintenance and go from there. If you're not losing weight or noticing any fat loss after a week or 2 cut another 300-500 cals. But whatever you do don't think you can lose weight faster by cutting over 1000 cals or going on some ridiculous 1000 cal diet.

For your goals, no don't count it. Keep on a low to moderate caloric intake level, and work your ass off. The more calories burned, the better.

Finest and Drickz Thank you for the actual answers to my questions. I should have restated my goals and stats in this email. I've been mid - low cal for a week and it is hard but not unattainable. I'll keep working out a little more each day and try to keep the board updated. I took before pics 2 days ago. hopefully I'll have some nice afters to go along in a few months or a year.

At this point the best thing you could do is just eat at least 3 meals/day with better foods, as noted in the stickies, and avoid carbs around bedtime.

werd especially if you're a newb. I've been cutting for like 2 months on a 500 cal deficit and my weight hasn't changed at all but I notice a lot of fat loss.
