GUN What are teh main types of 12 gauge shotgun and 22 ammunition?

    My dad owns a shotgun and 22 I want to buy say 10-20 rounds of each kind.

    So with shotgun there is
    tiny pellets that spray , a slightly bigger pellets like 7 or something , one with 3 pellets and a whole slug.
    so buckshot is best for home defence?

    22-
    is there hollow point
    regular 22

    ???

    So i should get buckshot and birdshot for pests and 22 hyper velocity?

    This is only a single shot shotgun and bolt single 22 atm Im getting other guns but it takes a month or so to process.

    Shotgun ammo and .22 ammo is pretty cheap. I think the smallest amount of .22 ammo you can buy is like 50 rounds for $1. Just buy a couple different brands.

    It doesn't really matter out of a single shot bolt action. They should all shoot just fine.

    .22 Long Rifle (.22LR - assuming that's what your rifle is) is the most common munition in the world, with 12 gauge probably being a close second. Both have an astounding array of options.

    .22LR is going to be target shooting and pest control at best. For target shooting, you'll probably want something basic and inexpensive. Since .22LR is so inherently cheap and manufactured by the trillions of rounds annuall, you can find it for as low as $0.02/round. For around $10 you can grab boxes of 500 at any sporting goods store.

    A bolt-action gun is only going to be picky about using the right cartridge type. Any cartridge that matches the markings on the rifle will be fine. IT's mostly about what works best for you in terms of price/performance and features.

    12ga is a great home defense munition. You're going to want to stick to the larger buckshot or slugs for self-defense. In 2.75", 00 buck is commonly available with 9-pellet load and can also be found with 12 pellets. I've seen the larger 000 buck in an 8-pellet 2.75" shell. Slugs tend to like rifled barrels and will do very bad thingsTM if you shoot them through a choked barrel, but can be had in smoothbore-friendly variants.

    You're going to need to determine what the chamber on your shotgun is. Most 12ga shotguns are 2.75". 3" is increasingly common. 3.5" is somewhat uncommon. Generally, you can use shorter shotshells in a weapon with a larger chamber.

    I'm not sure I'd want to engage zombies/goblins with a single-shot shotgun, but I suppose it's better than nothing if you don't have a choice.

    Im getting better guns in the future this is just what I own now. like ammo i think i can buy straight away whereas guns I need to wait a month or so for it to process.

    You can buy ammunition if you are 18 years old. The cheapest .22LR is Thunderbolt with Federal Target close behind, works well enough if you've just got a plinker. If your dad has a nice bolt action Cooper or Kimber then you may want to plunk down for something a bit more like Aguila SS or some Wolf Match.

    For your shotty, there are sales popping up everywhere, just get some cheap Remmy.

    I dont understand with guns why the price ranges from 80-400 is it just brand name prestige or is their a quality issue?

    You'll probably want a recoil pad if you're going to be doing a large amount of shooting with that single shot.

    .22 Hornet is a centerfire cartridge, not a rimfire. .22 Magnum is more powerful than .22LR.

    yeah I had a little bit of a hard time following. I can go pick up 100 12 ga for clays and 550 22lr for less than $30 (or at least last time I did it)

    Clays - walmart 100 or 250 pack (~15/100)
    Home Defense - Slugs or Buckshot

    Higher the number on shot the smaller it is aka
    Slug.000.00.0.1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9
    Big-----------------------------------Small


    Smaller shot = more per cartridge


    For .22 you have round nose and HP, though it doesn't matter that much
    Then you have the speeds: subsonic, standard, hypervelocity
    Standard is fine, subsonic are quieter. For plinking ammo go with the 500 round boxes for ~$10-15 (DO NOT BUY THUNDERBOLTS(thunderduds))

    If you want quiet rounds get some Aguila SSS or CB rounds. They are about the same as a pellet gun.

    Australia. I plan to get a 303 bolt, 357 lever marlin, a double shotgun, maybe a pump 22 but im unsure of which calibres are best for which action.

    22 bolt, single shot and 303 bolt are a lot cheaper than other guns.
