Alright, i wrestle in college, and i'm trying to cut weight to the next weight class (i need to lose 30 lbs), while, hopefully, keeping the majority of my muscle mass. To throw a wrench in this process i suffered a broken ankle and torn cartilage in my knee last season, so biking is the only form of cardio i'm permitted. I've been on this for about 3 months, i've lost 2 lbs. I'm at a total loss as to why i'm not dropping weight like a rock :dunno: its not as if i dont have the fat to lose.

I'm Taking a multi vitemin, calcium, and glucosamine/chrondroiten

    Breakfast
    - 1 Protein Shake w/ Water
    Plus
    - 1 egg + 1/4 cup Egg Beaters
    or
    - 1 cup of cereal (Kashi Go Lean usually) + 2/3 cup of Skim Milk

    Lunch
    - 1 Fat Free Cranberry Muffin
    - Protein Shake w/ Water

    Dinner
    - 3 Pieces Chicken Tenderloin (8 oz roughly)
    - Couple pieces of fruit (Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Honeydew... etc.)

    After Lifting
    - Protein Shake w/ Water

I try to bike a minimum of 4 times a week, i usually do a lot more, such as last week i did it 10 times. I usually do an 7.5-10 mile circuit depending on the route i go, i rarely go slower than 1 hour.

    I lift 4x a week
Monday / Wednesday – Chest and Back
    - Bench Press
    - Normal
    - Close
    - Reverse
    - Incline Bench
    - Dumbell Bench
    - Pullovers
    - Flys
    - Bent over Rows
    - Lat pulldown (all use freeweights except this one)
    - Pushups
    - Bicep Curls

    Tuesday / Thursday – Arms / Shoulders / Neck
    - Lateral Raises
    - Front Raises
    - Shoulder Press
    - Skull Crushers
    - Triceps Pulldown (Machine)
    - Wrist Curls
    - Shrugs
    - Chin Raises
    - Pushups
    - Calf Raises

What can i do to spark some weight loss?

Are you able to hit the pool at all?? When I was in high school all my wrestler buddies sucked weight by sitting in the hot tub in sweat suits and running in sweats. What is your body fat %?? You might not have much weight to lose that isn't muscle if you look like a lot of the wrestlers that i know.

Use fitday to count calories. Are you doing all of those exercises in one session? Can you train legs?

a broken ankle and torn cartlidge isn't the end of the world

how long since the injury? Dr. still hasn't realeased you to train?

i tore the articular cartilage my sr of hs, had surgery last june, it never felt right, went to school, PT took me to the beginning of practice (oct), the knee went to shit 2 weeks later, i kept the starting spot until x-mas break when the other heavyweights came back, saw another doc because i wasnt happy w/ the first, new MRI's were inconclusive, he told me to give it a rest, convinced him to let me finish the season, i broke my ankle at the beginning of Feb. Spiral fracture of the fibula, 10 weeks in a cast. I had knee surgery in the middle of april, tore the articular cartilage in two places, one went right down to the bone, needed microfracture. 6 weeks of an immobilizer w/ 9 hours daily in a CPM machine. I wasnt walking normally until late may. so, its really recent, not like it was 6 months ago. btw, everything happened to the same leg, the ankle and knee. Plus, they're pretty sure i did something similar to the other knee. so, lifting, in any capacity is so light it doesnt rly matter. 4 months prior to my initial injury i was deadlifting 550+ and parallel squatting 700ish, so my legs, despite lack of use, are still pretty solid. I simply left off the legs part of my routine since i can't do them right now. Legs are usually pretty extensive.

Monday / Wednesday / Friday – Chest and Back
    - Bench Press
    o Normal
    o Close
    o Reverse
    - Incline Bench
    - Dumbell Bench
    - Pullovers
    - Flys
    - Bent over Rows
    - Lat pulldown
    - Pushups
    - Bicep Curls (Close/Middy/Far x2 each + Dumbells)
    - Chin ups
    - Squats / Deadlift
    - Jammer / Cleans
    - Calf Raises
    - Straight leg dead lift

    Tuesday / Thursday – Arms / Shoulders / Neck
    - Lateral Raises
    - Front Raises
    - Shoulder Press
    - Skull Crushers
    - Triceps Pulldown
    - Wrist Curls
    - Shrugs
    - RDLs
    - Chin Raises
    - Good Mornings
    - Pushups
    - Chin Ups
    - Dead Lifts
    - Lunges
    - House of Pain (leg extension, leg curl, leg press, 1 set of ten at each machine, repeat 3 times [extention -> curls -> leg press repeat x3])
    - Calf Raises

i dont have regular access to a swimming pool, so thats kinda out.

I wrestle HWT, i do have 30 to lose, 30 would bring me down to single digit body fat, i was calculated at 21% at the beginning of last season @ 21% while weighing 260ish (i dont remember the weight exactly)

I also don't have access to a steam room, nor would i use it currently for weight loss, all that would cause is water weight loss.

    How much do you weigh?

In any case you should eat more fat especially healthy fat like fish oil and nuts. Depending on your weight and what you are doing that day shoot for 50-70g.

    And try carb cycling.

So, essentially, i should be splitting between a high carb day, a low carb day, and no carb day. rinse and repeat

i dunno about raising the calories, i thought in order to burn fat you would need/want a calorie deficit, ie. burn more than you take in

Yes but if you eat too little your metabolism slows and you burn less.

ok so it's a injury that has stuck around and been aggrevated etc. never mind my earlier posts then lol, i saw the "last season" line and thought you were nuts or something but if the thing wouldn't heal right that makes things different so nevermind my posts.
