I have had my camera on single AF point in the center, and was messing with the setting today and thought I would see what you guys have your set at???

    For example:

The red dots......do you guys have all of them used, or just one? If so which one?

depends on the shot and the subject... I use single focus point for majority of shots... Car racing is different...

are the red dots meaning that area is in focus? and the black dots are not focused?

yes. the red dots are the ones that the camera is trying to get in focus. Some modes use more focus points than others.

really depends on the subject, but for most of my shots they are set to one dot left or right on centre (i have the same shitty pattern as above)

    center only

  10. center most of the time.

Shooting a person in portrait mode is different if you have to shoot quickly. If you use center position while someone is walking towards you it will be a pain to set focus then bring camera down and take the shot. By this time the person is already closer to you and will probably be somewhat out of focus. For this I use the far right, or in portrait orientation it would be the very top focus point. This way you won't have a huge empty space above your subjects dome piece. :bigthumb:

One point exclusively. I have the 45 points on my 1D set to only use 9 points and I choose whichever of the 9 is needed for the shot, rarely is it ever the center point.

That is why I want the MkIII because it now gives more cross point sensors so most of the points I normally use will now be as sensitive as the center point.
